Sea Staff Planning & Programs

WAYPOINT‘s concept of its Human Resource Development program is about putting the ship’s crew at the center of development. It is about realizing their potential, increasing their performance, choices and enjoying the freedom  to lead a balanced life both at sea and at home.

WAYPOINT‘s operates under the premise that the demand of global seafaring industry is extraordinarily growing in the past years, and this has resulted in a shortage of qualified and competent crew, particularly from the Philippines. This situation has been further compounded by the exponential increase in the wages of Filipino crew, for all type of vessels.

While national and local policies play a critical role in bringing about better human development outcomes for both those who choose to have a career at sea and in any related maritime businesses, manning agencies like WAYPOINT, must lead the way in demonstrating how a human development approach can be a means to redress some of the underlying issues that erode the potential benefits of maintaining a continuous supply of qualified and competent crew.

In sum, WAYPOINT believes in the positive impact of a systematic and personalized human resource development program on every crew member as well as on its office counterparts. This system can empower traditionally disadvantaged individual, particularly the ratings.
